In May of 2012, my sweet grandmother passed away after 85 fabulous years on this earth. Her passing had a great impact on my family, especially for my mother. As the youngest of five siblings, my mother and her mother were best of friends. Seeing my mother mourn the loss of her mother made me realize that losing a parent was much more difficult than I could ever imagine. With the approaching holidays, I decided that I wanted to give my mother something unique and memorable to help her get through such a tough time of year. Late one night, I came across Laura’s quilting website while researching the perfect gift. After reading over the different options, I knew that the T-Shirt quilt was exactly the gift I needed for my mother. After contacting Laura and meeting with her, her reassuring manner and passion for her talent reaffirmed my decision to have this quilt made. I quickly gathered many of my grandmother’s favorite shirts and pants that brought back so many wonderful memories of seeing her wear the outfits at holidays, family gatherings, church, and even to our local high school football games. After a few weeks, Laura called me back and showed me the final product. My breath was taken away by the beauty of the quilt. Tears came to my eyes as I saw my grandmother’s face in each patch. It was beautifully crafted, uniquely designed, and made with such love, care, and compassion. After presenting it to my mother and seeing her sorrow and grief for my grandmother turn to joy, I knew that I had made the right decision. Laura, thank you from the bottom of my heart for blessing my family with your talented gift. You have given us a blanket full of happy memories to share with each generation about what a wonderful woman my grandmother was. Words can not express my gratitude, and I am sure that my grandmother is smiling down with her approval from up above!
