STRESS SPELLED BACKWARDS IS DESSERTS?

It is stressful to be an entrepreneur, to build a business from your living room into a brick and mortar that is separate from your home. To be honest it is stressful just to get up in the morning and go out and live weather you have your own business, work for someone else or are retired. Life is full of stress!  The new location for Quality Quilts is on our property behind our home but it is still separate.  I was not aware that this would make such a difference to those out in the business community but it has, in a good and positive way. The stress is always there but that is not always a negative...

AND WE HAVE A WINNER!!!

What a weekend! Went to the local quilt show to have a look at Siren Song and found out she won 3 ribbons. One was best computerized quilting. The painter was here and painted the kitchen and dinning room. The last of the odds and ends are at the new storage site waiting for when we can build a storage shed on our property. Now to put up the artwork on the walls and putting  up the books that remain in what will be the hubbies wood working shop. Even the decks are being cleaned and the additional decking around and leading to "Quiltopia" have begun to be built by the hubby. We are seeing the light...

Her name is Siren Song

Siren Song is the name given to this beautiful black and cream quilt that will be hanging in this weekends Wildflower Quilt Guild Quilt Show. This quilt was quilted during the moving of the studio to its new location. She is one of my best works! I will post details on all the designs in a followup blog after the show. No pictures of the full quilt at this time. Enjoy getting a glimpse of Siren Song.

Fran the Fabulous Fusion

Fran the Fabulous Fusion was brought into the new studio over a week ago and has been busy at work. When we took her apart we were able to bring most of her in large units. When we turned her on she ran like she was still in the house that is until I broke a needle and got her all out of time. I will be forever grateful for the training I have taken with Handiquilter educators and their info on how to order the tools and DVD on how to time the Fusion 24. It has saved me valuable time and so much money! You can not order these things from their website the educator called and when I called and placed...

CONSTRUCTION, HELPING OTHERS , and QUILTING…..OH MY!

So much going on here at my new studio "Quiltopia" Part of the exterior has been painted. The bamboo flooring is installed and we have the light fixtures up. The interior is all textured and painted a bright white. This is really happening!!!! Oh yea the new windows arrived and will be installed next week.       Quilts of Valor have taken a back seat to customer jobs but this week we worked on binding and labeling four so we can award them and ship two to be awarded next week to those that are returning home from another of many deployments.     After...

It Begins!

The tree trimmers and landscapers have been here and a lot of brush was cleared from around the new studio. Three large truck loads of leaves went to the dump and the grapes and herbs have been planted. There is more landscaping to be done and of course decking to be built once the building if finished. Flooring, windows, lighting and decking materials have been ordered and are waiting to be delivered when the contractor is ready. The building is empty and construction has begun. It is unbelievable the changes in just two short days. I am mapping out where everything will go when we get to set the studio...

Will It Never End?

It has been a rough couple of weeks here at Quality Quilts with illness and still working on emptying what was once a storage building/workshop so it can be transformed into the new studio for Quality Quilts. Twenty years of stuff and all the wood working equipment is proving to be a very big job and you throw into the mix the desire to have a summer garden and illness and you have a perfect storm. As you can see more has come into the house. I didn't think we could get another thing in but we did! You see we can't have anything in the attic of the shop due to the insulation of  new  lighting...

First Things First!

The first thing one must do when building a new business location is ensure it is safe for clients and guest to get to. Walking on a slopping backyard that is nothing but dirt and rocks will not work! We have large trees that we love but keep out the sun and keeps any and all grass from growing. Trees have been trimmed a lot, we will see if we can grow anything back there this summer. So we had two retaining walls built and have filled in and given them almost two years to settle. The walls are holding up great and there are no signs of shifting. There will be a large deck off the studio...

Thanks Ducky!

There is a lot going on here at Quality Quilts. It is a new year, a year of change and growth for many. For me it is the year when Quality Quilts moves to its new location. No I am not moving off of our property, just out of the house. I am moving into the 800 square foot shop behind our home. It is big and has plugs everywhere, in the ceiling, low on walls, midway up the walls. The lighting is all built into the ceiling and is abundant. Now to move all the "stuff" and wood working tools and equipment my husband has in it. Oh and lets not forget the garage where the new workshop will be. We...
